Dr. Rodney Guttmann is Professor and Director of the Center on Aging at the University of West Florida.
Dr. Guttmann earned his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Pharmacology. Following a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania he joined the University of Kentucky where he studied Alzheimer’s disease at the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. As a member of the Gerontology department at UK he was director of graduate studies and the graduate certificate in gerontology. He is a Pensacola native and graduate of Catholic High School.
Using novel molecular techniques, current studies in his lab focus on biomarker development for use in both clinical and research applications. In collaboration with other researchers, his lab also seeks to develop peptide-based drugs in the treatment of neuropathic pain, study the effects of increased oxidative stress on the activities of cysteine-dependent enzymes, and develop high-throughput assays for the study of age-related conditions and diseases.
